Paper Shredders suited for working from home

The way businesses are run today is very different since we first learned of Coronavirus. One large change is that it is now common to work from home. When working from home, it’s easy to let documents stack up especially if you don’t have access to a paper shredder like you did when in an office. It’s important while working from home to maintain a level of security to protect sensitive information.

Your office space may have included a bin service where you placed paper which was taken offsite to be shredded for you. This is not a practical option when working from home so a paper shredder is a good option. There are a lot of options available when purchasing a paper shredder, here are some things to think about to help you get a machine best suited to your use.

Does your company have any specific security requirements?

Cross cut shredders are by far the most popular available. They shred paper into small rectangles. Cross cut shredders are considered a minimum standard requirement for many office environments.

If you work in an organisation that requires a higher level of security, perhaps in a Government department, you may need a minimum security level of P-5 or higher. Be sure to check with your organisation to find out if they have specific requirements.

Are you only shredding paper and how often?

Will you be shredding paper only or also needing to shred CDs, staples, paperclips, credit cards etc? Check the shredder you are buying can shred what you need it to.

A small office shredder will likely be all you need while working from home. If you are expecting to shred large volumes you will need to look at a larger model. Not using an undersized shredder is important as it will save you time and reduce the risk of overheating and damaging your shredder.

Do you want an auto feed or manual feed shredder?

If you often find yourself with a pile of paper needing to be shredder then an auto feed model is probably the best choice for you. You will be able to load your pile of paper in and let it shred for you.

If you tend to shred as you a manual feed will be a better option. Manual feed shredders can shred a document or 2 in seconds.

Do you have size & noise restrictions?

Be sure to check how much space you have available before purchasing a paper shredder. There are many different sizes available so it’s important to get one that’s a suitable size.

Noise is also a factor in a home office environment. Are you going to be close to others at home? Modern shredders are generally very quiet. If this is important, look for things like INFOSTOP’s range of “library quiet” shredders.
