A Guide to GBC Foton 30 Film Refills and Reloadable Cartridges

The GBC Foton 30 is a fully-automated desktop laminator designed to save up to 98% of the time compared to traditional, manually fed pouch lamination. Simply place your documents in the tray, press run and walk away. It automatically detects film thickness, straightens pages as they feed through, controls spacing and trims each document for clean, consistent results.

This laminator uses auto-threading film cartridges, eliminating the need to open and insert individual pouches one at a time. The cartridges are reloadable and can be easily refilled with either 75 or 125 micron film. By reusing the cartridge when the film runs out, you can reduce plastic waste—just take care not to discard it along with the empty film rolls.

Replacement film is also available preloaded in new cartridges, which is useful if your original cartridge is lost or damaged, or if you prefer colour-coded cartridges for quickly switching between 75 and 125 micron film types.

Laminating film thickness is measured in microns (commonly used in Europe and Australia), where 1 micron equals one-thousandth of a millimetre, or in mils (commonly used in the United States), where 1 mil equals one-thousandth of an inch. Roughly, 25 microns is equivalent to 1 mil.

  • 75 micron (3 mil) film: A thinner, cost-effective option that provides sufficient protection for items handled occasionally, such as posters.
  • 125 micron (5 mil) film: A thicker, more rigid option suited to frequently handled materials like ID cards, menus, and recipe cards.

In general, choose 75 micron film for flexibility and 125 micron film for greater durability.
